Volunteer as a Governor or Trustee

Use your skills. Make a difference. Help us transform lives through the power of learning.

We believe that education has the power to change lives — and our governors and trustees play a crucial role in making that happen. By volunteering your time, experience and perspective, you can help shape the strategic direction of our Trust and ensure that every child gets the brilliant education they deserve.

Whether you’re an experienced board member or completely new to governance, we welcome people from all backgrounds who are willing to learn, ask thoughtful questions and care deeply about making a difference.

Volunteering at Board level is a powerful way to give back to your community. As a governor or trustee, you will:

  • Make a meaningful impact on the lives of thousands of children and young people
  • Use your skills for social good, influencing strategy, culture and long‑term outcomes
  • Support and challenge school and Trust leaders, helping ensure high standards for all
  • Gain new experience, deepen your strategic thinking and develop board‑level expertise
  • Join a passionate, supportive team that cares about education — and enjoys working together.

You don’t need to work in education to get involved. In fact, we actively welcome perspectives from outside the sector.

We are always keen to hear from people who are:

  • Thoughtful and curious
  • Motivated by improving life chances for children and young people
  • Able to think strategically and work as part of a team
  • Committed to our values of Innovation, Collaboration and Excellence
  • Willing to contribute time to meetings, preparation and engagement with our schools.

Most importantly, we welcome volunteers who bring heart, perspective and a commitment to doing what’s right for our learners.

We believe in transparency. Governors and trustees are volunteers, and we want the experience to be purposeful, manageable and yes - enjoyable.

You can expect:

  • Regular meetings throughout the year
  • Training, support and mentoring
  • Clear information to help you prepare and contribute effectively
  • Opportunities to visit our schools and understand the impact of your work
  • A warm, collaborative Board that takes its mission seriously.

At INOVA, we are proud to be a Trust with heart. We work hard, we care deeply, and we genuinely enjoy working together. We believe brilliant governance happens in an environment where people feel respected, supported and encouraged to bring their best selves.

Our colleagues across our schools and central teams go above and beyond every day - and our governors and trustees play a vital role in championing and supporting them.
